About this blog

The National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority is the government's centre of expertise for the planning and delivery of infrastructure and major projects. We sit within HM Treasury, but also report to the Cabinet Office.

NISTA is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the government’s 10 Year Infrastructure Strategy. We do that by identifying and coordinating the UK’s infrastructure needs, including through developing a more spatial approach to infrastructure planning, in a way that maximises economic growth and supports other government missions.

We also work across government to unblock barriers and streamline the delivery of government’s major projects. We do this through advising on project set-up, planning, project delivery, benefits realisation and providing expert commercial and financial advice – including on the government’s approach to the private financing of major projects.

In addition, we provide effective assurance for the government’s priority projects, including overseeing the Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP).

NISTA works to set the standards for and improve the capabilities of the government’s project delivery through our leadership of the Government Project Delivery Function. This includes developing guidance and tools and delivering leadership and learning programmes, as well as drawing in industry expertise and best practice.

We use this blog to explore some of the ideas and approaches we take to help transform the UK’s economic and social infrastructure, share how we engage and collaborate with our key stakeholders inside and outside government, and provide insights into the teams and experts responsible for our work.
